The Society are aware that, in 1859, a Eoyal Commission was appointed to inquire into the sanitary state of the army in India; and that in 1863 the Commission submitted its report. On its recommendation, the Government of India took several measures of great importance and attended with great expense. Among others, new barracks were built at an outlay of several millions sterling, and a Sanitary Commission was established.
